Another year has passed, and we are beginning to actively plan the 3rd Annual 18 For Emerson Charity Golf Tournament. To date, we have raised over $100,000 to support medical research being conducted by Dr. Brian Kaspar’s team at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Our goal this year is to raise another $50,000 to continue to support the efforts being conducted by Dr. Kaspar’s team.
This year, all money raised will be going to Sophia’s Cure and then directed to Dr. Kaspar and his team. Last year’s event helped to fully fund the gene therapy program for Phase 1 and we are currently waiting for the IND submission to the FDA with the goal of being in human clinical trials later this summer. The theory is if we get in early enough a full rescue is possible for the newly diagnosed and the more advanced patients would see a halt in the progression of the disease. The next step in the puzzle is to figure out if there is a way to ”fix” what is damaged on the more advanced kids. Dr. Kaspar and his team are now focused on finding out if it is possible to re-innervate axons of motor neurons that are potentially still alive.

Another Successful 18 for Emerson
Emerson’s Hope Foundation would like to thank all the sponsors, participants, and others that donated to our cause this year for the 2nd Annual 18 for Emerson Charity Golf Tournament. We are working this week to finalize all the last-minute donations, and tabulate everything we raised so far. We will make an announcement later this week with our final total. There is still time to make a donation to our event this week, and remember, every dollar we raise is being matched by a private donor. To make a donation online click: DONATE NOW
To all our friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and complete strangers that came out yesterday, I’d like to offer a heart-felt thank you! Without you, we wouldn’t be able to do this! We are making great progress in our efforts to cure SMA, and our hope is that by this time next year, we will see the first results to the first phase of the human clinical trial in gene therapy for SMA.
